Why do I need a vendor inventory for PIPEDA?
PIPEDA's accountability principle makes you responsible for personal information even after you transfer it to a third party for processing. You must use contractual means to ensure comparable protection. A vendor inventory — who holds what data, under which agreement, and with what risk — is how you demonstrate that accountability to the OPC.
What is a cross-border / CLOUD Act flag?
When a vendor stores or can access Canadian personal data from outside Canada (often the US, where the CLOUD Act can compel disclosure), that transfer needs assessment.
